DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE THE VERY FIRST “MISS TEEN DREAM” and “LITTLE MISS DREAM”?
The Search is on to find to find some of the most exceptional young ladies who radiate that SPECIAL and UNIQUE quality to take part in this year’s glittering “MISS TEEN DREAM” and “LITTLE MISS DREAM PAGEANT”
WHY LAUNCH “MISS TEEN DREAM”?
Beauty is not just on the outside – it comes from within too!! Confidence, a strong moral and spiritual foundation, integrity and fulfilment is the ethos of “MISS TEEN DREAM” as we know that confidence-building is the key foundation to achieving growth in each and every young girl.
With the growing concern regarding the increasingly negative images being portrayed in the media today and the power they exert in the minds of young girls either approaching teenage-hood and adulthood, I decided to concentrate my efforts this year to launch “MISS TEEN DREAM” and “LITTLE MISS DREAM” in order to instill in these young girls a sense of order, propriety and correctness.
We would love to be able to positively touch the lives of their contestants in such a way that will stand them in good stead for the future. These talented individuals feel invigorated by the sense of control and discipline in their lives and become more confident in the world around them and what it has to offer.
With expert training and workshop sessions, we will be forging ahead to focus on developing strong, self-assured, compassionate and confident young women for the future who will be able to have the determination to reach their goals.
Life skills and role play will be another part of their development utilising the performing arts to help self expression, self-assuredness and pride.
GROWING CONCERNS
Being a mother of two and a grandparent, I am extremely concerned that so many young girls these days are being pressurised and manipulated into making the wrong decision based on influences from peers, school, media perception, social life, abuses and adverse activities. These young girls are being bombarded by "flawless images" that are near on impossible to achieve without starvation, negative self-impressions and unattainable expectations fuelled by the music they listen to, the videos they watch, and social dilemmas that they face daily via the media invasion that are not positive true reflections of life .
I conducted a small survey taken from some of the young girls that I know with startling results. Many thought that they were overweight (which, indeed, was not the case) and, to my dismay, some were already on diets of some sorts, many had already started to display characteristics of low self esteem, and a couple of them admitted to me that they were being bullied at school for a variety of reasons. This is staggering!!
How can one close their eyes and ears to these silent cries!
All this pressure slowly starts to eat away at a young girl’ confidence and they starts to develop either inadequacy in these young lives which can lead to serious eating disorders, self-loathing, bullying and low-esteem. Some of these young girls will go ahead in life thinking that they have little or nothing to offer as they make transitions to full adulthood and never recover from the anguish of their childhood.
A PAGEANT WITH A DIFFERENCE that OFFERS AN ALTERNATIVE
With the launch of both the “MISS TEEN DREAM” and “LITTLE MISS DREAM” pageants we hope to bring a new, fresh and exciting dimension to the pageant element and offer more scope and enterprise to these so very and talented young ladies, giving these young women hope in their aspirations and a need to see themselves as valuable individuals within their communities, family and peer groups and be integral in helping to build confident young ladies for the future!
We want each and every young girl in our pageant to believe that “they are special” and that “all things are possible”.
“MISS TEEN DREAM” will successful use their expert skills in performing arts as a vehicle to nurture and develop not only exceptional young ladies who will have necessary compassionate nature, social graces, etiquette, intellect and understanding which is required to navigate everyday life and it’s increasing pressures on young women, but, most importantly, work at bringing to these young ladies personal enhancement goals and skills using strong moral values therefore, giving each young person a sense of pride, achievement and belonging.
“MISS TEEN DREAM” and “LITTLE MISS DREAMS” aims to redress this situation in a fun and inspiring setting. There will be no SIZE, HEIGHT, WEIGHT restriction and the contestants do not have to have ANY PREVIOUS PAGEANT EXPERIENCE – WE WILL WELCOME ALL YOUNG LADIES!!
We actively encourage applications from all ethnic backgrounds, religions, cultures to be able to encourage an “international philosophy” to the event.
LIVING BY EXPERIENCE – MY STORY
By being crowned “MISS AFRO-WEST INDIES” in 1981, I was one of the fortunate young ladies of that time to have been given the opportunity to become an Ambassador for young women – black and white - within my community in the UK and represent my country and ethnicity in my capacity in the West Indies and Africa.
As a child, I was the victim of bullying, constant attacks and generally lived a life of low self-esteem. Being the only black child in a London school in the 60s through to the 70s, I was singled-out each and every day. I felt I was too skinny, had horrible bushy hair, ugly face and features and basically, suffered throughout my tender years. However, winning the pageant in 1981 re- asserted a motivational force within me and helped me to metamorphous and recognise my true qualities, worth and talents that have helped me to navigate life’s obstacles.
“MISS TEEN DREAM” will be an extremely rewarding experience for all concerned as I believe I am in an ideal opportunity to “bless” each and every contestant with my knowledge, empathy and experience. The pageant will also offer invaluable free workshops covering all aspects of social graces, etiquette, inter-personal development skills and the application of using their natural ability to help build "CONFIDENT, SUCCESSFUL and COMPASSIONATE YOUNG WOMEN OF THE FUTURE" in faith-based inspirational, fun workshops that will accompany the preparation for the pageant.
